
Joey Dorsey Assigned To Vipers

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they have been assigned Houston Rockets forward Joey Dorsey. He will be in uniform for tonight's game against the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7:00 p.m.
Selected with the third pick of the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft out of the University of Memphis, Dorsey has appeared in three games for the Rockets, playing two minutes each time while collecting two points, one rebound and one assist.
During his four-year career at Memphis, Dorsey averaged 6.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game. He ranks as the school's all-time leader in field goal percentage (61.4%) and is second in blocked shots (264). Dorsey set a school record for games played with 149 while grabbing ten or more rebounds in 55 of those games and posting 26 double-doubles.
During his senior season, Dorsey helped lead Memphis to the National Championship game by leading Conference USA in rebounding (9.5 per game), ranking third in blocked shots (1.95 per game) and posting nine double-doubles while scoring in double-figures five times. He scored a season-high 18 points to go with a career-high 22 rebounds at Houston during the regular season. In the NCAA tournament, Dorsey blocked a season-high six shots against Mississippi State in the second round, scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds against Texas in the Elite 8, and led all players with 15 rebounds against UCLA in the Final Four.
As a junior, Dorsey scored a career-high 8.5 points per game while leading Conference USA with 9.4 rebounds. He ranked second in field goal percentage (61.4%) and blocked shots (a career-high 2.2 per game).
Dorsey is the Vipers' first NBA assignee of the season. There are currently five former Vipers playing in the NBA: Aaron Brooks (Rockets), C.J. Watson (Golden State Warriors), Steve Novak (Los Angeles Clippers), Shannon Brown (Charlotte Bobcats), and Cedric Simmons (Chicago Bulls).
