
Joey Diamond Gets Call to AHL

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Joey Diamond has been loaned to the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL), and Dean Yakura has signed a Standard Player Contract.
The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings and the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.
Diamond, 27, receives his first call to the AHL since last playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on April 18, 2014. This season with the Monarchs, Diamond has paced the team in scoring with 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists, while adding 46 penalty minutes.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound native of Long Beach, N.Y. has played 97 ECHL games in his career between the Monarchs, South Carolina Stingrays and Stockton Thunder, accumulating 87 points on 35 goals and 52 assists in 97 games. Diamond has also played in 47 career AHL games, registering 17 points on nine goals and eight assists.
Diamond played collegiately at the University of Maine, where he served as the captain for his senior season. While on campus, Diamond played in 135 games for the Black Bears, and scored 104 points on 59 goals and 45 assists.
Yakura, 31, comes to the Monarchs by way of the Danbury Titans (FHL), where he had played 10 games and scored 10 points on three goals and seven assists this season. Yakura opened the 2016-17 season on the Monarchs training camp roster.
The 6-foot, 192-pound native of West Vancouver, British Columbia has logged 78 games in the FHL with the Titans, Danbury Whalers and Dayton Demonz over parts of the last three seasons, with his best year coming during the 2015-16 campaign when he scored 81 points on 23 goals and 58 assists in 56 games.
Yakura and the Monarchs are back in action Wednesday, Dec. 7 (7 p.m.) when they host the Norfolk Admirals at SNHU Arena for the first time this season.
