News and Notes:
Good First Impression: Recently-acquired forward Shane Walsh dished out a pair of assists in Friday's 5-1 win over the Indy Fuel; his first game as a Cyclone, and added one more in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over the Missouri Mavericks. Walsh now has 13 points on the season (5g, 8a), and leads all ECHL rookies with 74 shots on goal.
"O" from the "D": The Cyclones have been getting major offensive contributions from the blue line in recent games, as Cyclones defensemen have accounted for 11 points (4g, 7a) in the last five games. Eric Knodel leads the way with a pair of goals and two assists in that time, while Arvin Atwal is right behind him with three assists.
Disciplined Hockey: The Cyclones enter this week's games as the fourth-least penalized team in the ECHL, averaging 10.85 minutes in penalties per game, and totaling 217 minutes overall. Forward Brandon McNally leads the team with 50 penalty minutes while rookie defenseman Arvin Atwal is second with 43, which places him second amongst League rookies.
Liambas Makes NHL Debut : Former Cincinnati Cyclones forward Mike Liambas made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut on Saturday afternoon with the Nashville Predators. He logged 4:42 of ice time and dished out a hit in Nashville's 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils. A native of Woodbridge, ON, Liambas appeared in 55 games with the Cyclones from 2011-13 where he totaled a goal and 11 assists, and racked up 252 minutes in penalties. He also dished out a pair of assists in four career playoff games for the Cyclones. Liambas' ECHL service also included a 32-game stint with the Orlando Solar Bears in 2012-13 in which he accounted for a pair of goals and seven assists, along with 151 minutes in penalties. He has spent most his professional career in the American Hockey League (AHL), seeing time with the Milwaukee Admirals, AHL affiliate of the Cyclones, and the Rockford IceHogs. In 201 AHL games, Liambas has recorded 11 goals and nine assists along with a whopping 716 minutes in penalties.
