Saskatoon, Sask. - Braeden Jockims tallied the game-winner for his first WHL goal in his hometown as the Winterhawks (27-6-2-1) topped the Saskatoon Blades (26-7-2-1) 3-1 at SaskTel Centre on Wednesday.
Jockims, playing in his second WHL game after debuting in Prince Albert on Tuesday, broke a 1-1 deadlock late in the second period. After a blocked shot at his own blue line sent the puck to the neutral zone, the Saskatoon native sped down the right wing on a 2-on-1 with Nick Johnson before loading a shot and wiring it past the glove of Austin Elliot from the right circle.
Portland had earlier opened the scoring for the second straight game as Robbie Fromm-Delorme tallied his second in Saskatchewan, receiving a Gabe Klassen drop pass at the top of the left circle and ripping a shot home just under four minutes into the game. Saskatoon soon capitalized on a power play, though, and evened things up at 10:46 of the first on Vaughn Watterodt's 17th of the year.
James Stefan netted an empty-netter to seal the 3-1 win, and Dante Giannuzzi stood tall with 28 saves on 29 shots between the pipes.
The Winterhawks' next contest comes Friday in Moose Jaw at 5:00 P.M. PT, before then wrapping up the road trip in Regina on Saturday.
