Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - JJ Matijevic pushed the Sugar Land Space Cowboys out to an early lead Thursday night with a first-inning RBI single.

It extended his hitting streak to 14 games, furthering the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League.

The Space Cowboys were unable to hang on, though, in their series finale vs. the Round Rock Express, losing 5-3 at Constellation Field.

Matijevic's RBI single scored Pedro León to give the Space Cowboys a 2-0 lead. He's hit .333 with four home runs and 13 RBI throughout the streak.

León put the Space Cowboys on the board with an RBI double, scoring Corey Julks. León finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. He leads the PCL with 12 doubles this season.

Round Rock took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a three-run homer from Meibrys Viloria, but Julks tied it up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to bring home Korey Lee. The Express plated two runs in the sixth to secure the win.

JP France got the start for the Space Cowboys and struck out six batters through 4 1/3 innings. Zac Rosscup, Ronel Blanco and Parker Mushinski fired scoreless innings of relief to keep it a two-run game going into the ninth.

The Space Cowboys welcome the Oklahoma City Dodgers for a three-game series at Constellation Field, beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Brandon Bielak is set to face off against Oklahoma City righty Andre Jackson.
