Jimenez Selected As Eastern League Player Of The Week

(PORTLAND, ME) - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending September 2nd:

Bowie Baysox first baseman/designated hitter Luis Antonio Jimenez has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending September 2nd. Jimenez, a native of Venezuela, had an outstanding week for the Baysox, batting .414 (12-for-29) with three doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and a .931 slugging percentage in seven games. The 25-year old started the week by homering in three straight games and he drove in at least one run in six out of seven games during the week. Despite playing in just 90 games, the 6'4", 205 lb. slugger is still tied for fifth in the league in home runs (22). Jimenez also made his first career pitching appearance last week, striking out one batter while pitching a perfect ninth inning on Saturday against Connecticut. Luis, who also won the award for the week ending July 29th, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a minor league free agent on May 14, 2007.
