Altoona Curve News Release
Altoona Curve right-handed pitcher Luis Munoz today was named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Monday, September 3. Munoz won both of his starts during the week (Monday vs. Reading and Saturday at Erie), allowing only two unearned runs over 13 2/3 innings of work.
The 25-year old native of the Dominican Republic completed a solid first Double-A season in the Pirates' system with his back-to-back outstanding outings to finish the year. In 25 Eastern League appearances (23 starts), Munoz went 12-5 with a 3.63 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 136 1/3 innings. He also went 2-1 in three Triple-A starts with Indianapolis to finish the season with 14 victories -- the most among all Pirates' minor leaguers.
Munoz was also honored as E.L. Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 7-13 after winning a pair of starts, including a May 7 start against Erie in which he tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out a season-high 10 batters.
