
Jimenez and homers lead Kernels to 5-1 win over Kane County

CEDAR RAPIDS - IA - Eswarlin Jimenez was brilliant while Frazier Hall and Abel Baker homered in an efficient 5-1 victory over Kane County on Monday evening. The game lasted only 2 hours and 2 minutes.
Eswarlin Jimenez (7-4) went 8 innings and recorded a season-high 8 strikeouts. He only allowed 1 run on 3 hits and walked only 1. R.J. Alvarez pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning to finish off the ballgame.
Frazier Hall gave the Kernels an early 3-0 lead with a 3-run home run in the 1st inning. Hall's blast to deep right center was his 13th of the season, tying Gary Mitchell for the team-lead. It was Hall's 4th homer of the month of August and his 4th in 13 games against Kane County.
Abel Baker extended the Kernels lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning with his 6th home run of the season. His 2-run shot to right field came on a 3-2 pitch with 2 outs in the inning.
Kane County scored their only run in the 6th inning, cutting the Kernels lead to 3-1. Kenny Swab led off with a leadoff ground-rule double. After a single, Swab scored when the Kernels turned a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Alex Llanos. Aaron Brooks (9-12) started for the Cougars, taking the loss in 5.2 innings. He allowed 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5 and walking 0. Kellen Moen added 2.1 innings, allowing 0 runs and 0 hits while striking out 3.
