Lansing Lugnuts News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (27-21, 74-43) fell 5-4 against the Great Lakes Loons (23-27, 57-63) when O'Koyea Dickson slapped an opposite field, walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on Monday night at Dow Diamond.
The Lugnuts and Loons were tied at four headed to the bottom of the ninth with Ian Kadish (Loss, 1-1) on the mound. The righty allowed a leadoff double before striking out the next two batters. Kadish then walked the next two Loons before Dickson's, two-out, walk-off base knock.
Lansing battled back from their second two-run deficit in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game without a base hit. Michael Crouse and Andy Fermin were walked by Loons reliever Juan Rodriguez (Win, 3-0) to begin the frame before they were balked into scoring position. Gustavo Pierre (1-for-3) drove in Crouse from third with a safety squeeze and Fermin scored on a wild pitch.
Lugnuts DH Kevin Patterson (1-for-4) had erased a 2-0 Great Lakes lead with a two-run home run in the fourth off Loons starter Gustavo Gomez.
Gomez tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowed just four hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out seven.
Grand Rapids native and Lugs starter Jesse Hernandez allowed just two unearned runs in the first inning. The Lugnuts righty worked six innings, gave up five hits, walked one and struck out one.
Great Lakes broke a two-two tie in the bottom off the seventh off Shawn Griffith when Scott Schebler and Jesse Bosnik hit back-to-back home runs off the Lugs righty.
Phil Brua worked around a lead-off single to toss a scoreless eighth inning for Lansing.
Lansing returns home on Wednesday, August 15th at 7:05 p.m., opening a three-game set against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The Lugnuts have yet to announce a starter for Wednesday night. The TinCaps will send Colin Rea (4-7, 3.54) to the mound. The series opener is a Ladies Night, featuring food and drink specials as well as salon services from City Salon. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
