Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

BREMERTON, Wash. - With two of the West Coast League's best pitching staffs squaring off, it's no surprise the Pippins and the Kitsap BlueJackets found themselves in a pitching duel Monday night. In a battle between Yakima Valley's Jens Jensen and Kitsap's Cameron Weinberg, it was Jensen and the Pippins who came away victorious, knocking off the BlueJackets, 1-0.

Jensen worked eight scoreless innings for the Pippins (18-13), allowing just three hits on his way to his fourth win of the summer. His biggest jam came in the bottom of the 7th, when Kitsap (10-21) got runners to 2nd and 3rd with two outs, but Jensen induced an inning-ending flyout.

With the game still scoreless entering the 8th, the Pippins finally broke through against Weinberg, who also worked eight innings and took a tough loss. The lefty allowed a two-out double to Branson Trube, before newly named all-star Jace Van De Brake delivered an RBI single to end the scoreless stalemate.

In the 9th, another Pippins all-star, Wyatt Mills, came on and worked a scoreless 9th to pick up his seventh save in as many tries.

Yakima Valley ended a two-game losing streak in league play with Monday's win, while Kitsap had its losing streak reach 11 games. The middle game of the series is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:35 pm, with left-hander Mitch Yada slated to throw for the Pippins.
