Sweets Blow Lead, Still Walk It off in Non-League Match-Up

Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Walla Walla, Wa- The Sweets made it interesting on Monday night in a 10-9 walk-off win over the Thurston County Senators. After a season full of league games, Walla Walla took home their first non-league win.

The Sweets jumped out in front early with seven runs through the first three innings. The Senators helped them out with 12 total walks, eight of them in the first three frames.

Walla Walla would then slowly lose their lead as they gave up at least one run in every inning from the forth to the eighth. The biggest inning was a three run frame in the seventh. Those runs came on a three run home run that tied the game at eight and then Thurston County took the lead with a run in the top of the eighth.

The Sweets would go into the ninth inning down 9-8. It was familiar territory for the Sweets as they had four previous walk-off victories on the season. They would pick up their fifth on a game-winning two-run double by Myles Hager into the gap in right center field.

The win does not help the Sweets' standing in West Coast League play, but it was a good opportunity for Manger Frank Mutz to get a lot of his players out on the field as 18 Sweets, including pitchers, saw action.

The Sweets and the Senators will match up again tomorrow at 7:05 for game two. The Sweets will send Kyle Molnar to the hill for the chance at the series victory.
