Oshawa Generals News Release
St. Paul, Minnesota - Oshawa Generals centre Boone Jenner has been selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round, 37th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Jenner, 18, enjoyed a tremendous sophomore season with the Generals averaging over a point per game in the regular season and the playoffs. The Dorchester, ON native scored 25 goals and 41 assists for 66 points in 63 games in the regular season and followed that up with 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points in 10 playoff games.
"We are very happy for Boone, his Mom, his Dad, and his Brothers," said Generals Head Coach and General Manager Chris DePiero. "He was the first player I selected here in Oshawa, so to watch his development up to this point has been very special."
Known for his tremendous skill mixed with his tenacious effort in both ends of the rink, Jenner was originally ranked 18th in NHL Central Scouting's Final rankings for this year's draft.
"The Blue Jackets selected an excellent player today," continued DePiero. "Boone embodies everything you want in a hockey player, grit, determination, leadership, tenacity and all the intangibles that separate a good player from a great player along with tremendous hockey skills."
Jenner was originally selected by the Generals in the 1st round, 4th overall of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. He went on to have a tremendous rookie season scoring 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points in 65 games and was runner-up for the Emms Family Trophy as the OHL's Rookie of the Year.
The 6-foot-1 forward also has international experience having represented Ontario at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where he served as Team Captain and helped lead Ontario to a silver medal. He has also participated at the 2010 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament where he represented Canada and helped the team to a gold medal.
He was also recently invited to Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp, scheduled for August 3rd-7th in Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta.
