DeMelo Picked by The San Jose Sharks in Sixth Round of The 2011 NHL Entry Draft

Minneapolis, MN - The San Jose Sharks have selected Majors defenceman Dylan DeMelo in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

DeMelo, 18, just completed his first full season with the Majors. In his rookie season in 2009-10, DeMelo split time between the Majors and the Mississauga Chargers. He appeared in 20 OHL games in his first year, recording one assist and serving 12 penalty minutes. He also sported a plus three rating in his rookie season. The London, ON native played in 36 games for the Chargers that year and contributed with 29 points and 24 penalty minutes. This past season, he was a regular on the Majors blue line, appearing in 67 of the team's 68 games during the regular season. He had 27 points, 70 penalty minutes and was a plus 31. DeMelo continued his strong play in the post season. In 20 playoff games he had five points, 15 penalty minutes and was a plus 10.

DeMelo was the second OHL defenseman taken by the Sharks in this year's draft as San Jose also selected Justin Sefton of the Sudbury Wolve's today. DeMelo joins Majors goaltender JP Anderson in the Sharks organization. Anderson was signed by the Sharks as a free agent last year.
