Utah Flash News Release
OREM, Utah, Jan. 26, 2009- Dontell Jefferson notched his NBA Development League career high with 38 points, and the Utah Flash overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to record a 123-114 overtime victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Monday at the McKay Events Center.
Jefferson, whose game-high scoring output extended his double-digit scoring streak to 12 straight games, led the Flash in the fourth-quarter comeback with 18 points in the period-including a streak that saw him knock down 12 straight Flash points.
"Dontell stepped up big time tonight; it's easy to see why I have NBA scouts asking about him every day." Flash head coach Brad Jones said. "He was really special in that fourth quarter and overtime period."
Utah (13-9) will head to Reno for back-to-back games against the Bighorns on Friday and Saturday. The Mad Ants (9-14) continue a 10-game road trip with back-to-back games at Dakota on Jan. 31 and Feb. 3.
Utah trailed 86-76 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before an Andre Ingram three-point bucket launched a 16-8 run that pulled the Flash to within two points with just over three minutes to play in regulation.
A Jefferson steal and dunk with less than two minutes to play gave the Flash their first lead of the game since mid-way in the third quarter. Fort Wayne's Taj McCullough picked up two of his 20 points with a running jumper with .6-seconds remaining that tied the game, 107-107, and sent the contest to the overtime period.
The Mad Ants managed just seven points in the overtime period on 3-of-14 (21%) shooting from the field, while the Flash exploded for 16 points on 4-of-6 (66%) shooting from the field and 7-of-9 (77%) from the free throw line.
"We had guys who were terrific in all areas tonight." Flash guard Andre Ingram said. "Whatever needed to be done to win, we had guys step in and do it."
Ingram chipped in 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc for the Flash. Reserve Carlos Wheeler recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Bennet Davis knocked down 13 points for the Flash. Ronald Dupree dropped in 12, and James Lang contributed nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the winning effort.
Walker Russell recorded a double-double to lead the Mad Ants with 29 points and 13 assists, while Chris Hunter knocked down 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Ron Howard added 25 points for Fort Wayne in the loss.
