Utah Flash News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. Feb. 3, 2009- Dontell Jefferson dropped in 26 points, and all five Utah Flash starters recorded double-digits in scoring as the Flash held on for a 100-95 NBA Development League victory over the Bakersfield Jam Tuesday night at Rabobank Arena.
With the victory, the Flash move past the Jam into the second place spot in the Western Division-trailing the Idaho Stampede by 2.5 games.
Jefferson, who entered the night averaging 25.3 points and 6.7 assists in the last three Flash games, added seven assists and seven rebounds to go along with his team-high 26 points in the win.
Utah (15-10), which picked up its ninth win in the last 13 games, will head back home to take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders Friday night. Bakersfield (15-11) will look to snap its four-game losing streak Thursday at it hosts the Anaheim Arsenal.
The Flash held a 38-27 lead mid-way through the second quarter before a Jeff Trepagnier old-fashioned three-point play capped a Bakersfield 8-0 run to cut the Flash lead to three with just over four minutes to play in the first half. But Utah rattled off an 11-5 run to close out the first half and take a 49-40 lead into the halftime break.
Jefferson, who recorded 13 third-quarter points, led the Flash on a 7-0 run to close out a 37-point third quarter and give Utah an 86-67 lead heading into the final period.
The Jam, whose only lead came at 2-0, outscored the Flash 28-14 in the final quarter. And after a Terrell Everett three-point shot capped a Jam 14-5 run to start the period, Bakersfield cut the Flash lead to 91-81 with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
The Jam got two free-throws from Nick Lewis to pull within four points, 96-92, with 19 seconds remaining. But Utah's Andre Ingram knocked down four free-throws to close out the game and seal the Utah victory.
Ingram finished with 17 points for the Flash, while James Lang added 15 points and eight rebounds. D-League All-Star Ronald Dupree dropped in 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Bennett Davis added 10 points.
