Jaye's Stellar Outing Not Enough against Tides

Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens took the field on Saturday night, coming off a win in which Donn Roach threw five quality innings in his first International League start, and Myles Jaye followed with another stellar performance on Saturday night. Jaye headed into the ball game with an 0-1 record as the right hander delivered a gem at Harbor Park despite bullpen woes leading to a no decision.
The offense had a nice performance in the box as well, with an early scoring attack off Tides' starter Joe Gunkel. In the second, Chad Huffman led off the frame with a single to center, and went first to third on a Dean Green double, as the Green Machine continued his hot streak with the stick. With runners on second and third and no one out, JaCoby Jones came through with a sharp line drive to right off Gunkel, scoring Huffman to put the Hens in the lead, 1-0. John Hicks followed the RBI, with one of his own hitting a 5-4 force out but plating Green.
The early runs were all Myles Jaye needed on Saturday as he cruised through the Tides' lineup through the entirety of his outing. Jayde surrendered a one out double to Dariel Alvarez in the bottom of the first but the two-bagger was the only hit allowed through his seven innings on the bump. The righty was stellar Saturday exiting after 7 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four before being relieved by Hens' bullpen arm, Preston Guilmet.
Guilmet came on after Jaye walked Mike Yastrzemski, leading to a Lloyd McClendon ejection for arguing balls and strikes. With one on and one out, Jaye looked to be in line for the win but after Guilmet surrendered a double and single to the first two hitters he faced the lead was blown and the one hit outing turned into a no decision. With the score tied at 2-2, Guilmet was left in and allowed his third hit in five batters, scoring Dariel Alvarez and giving Norfolk a 3-2 lead headed to the ninth. Guilmet's final line read 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 BB, 1 SO as he took the loss.
The Hens went quietly in the ninth off Norfolk closer Jason Stoffel as what looked to be a shutout win, turned into a game two heartbreaker. The weekend series wraps up on Sunday night with first pitch set for 6:05 PM.
