Toledo, OH - The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 8-1, Monday night at Fifth Third Field. Ryan Zimmerman began a Major-League rehab assignment with the Chiefs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a walk, and two RBIs. Jose Lobaton also played his first rehab game with the Chiefs, going 2 for 4 with a walk. Austin Voth threw six innings of one-run ball in the win.

Syracuse (55-67) struck first thanks to Zimmerman, who hit the second pitch he saw from Cesar Ramos over the left-center field fence for a 1-0 Chiefs lead.

Toledo (56-68) found its only run against Voth in the second. Alex Presley and Jeff McVaney led off the game with back-to-back singles. The runners moved to third on Chad Huffman's groundout to the mound and Presley scored on Dean Green's groundout to second to tie the game.

The Chiefs answered back in the second. Neftali Soto doubled and Matt den Dekker singled to put runners on first and third and no-one out. Two batters later, Zach Collier drove in Soto with an RBI single for a 2-1 lead. Christopher Bostick then doubled down the left-field line and gave the Chiefs a 4-1 advantage.

Zimmerman drove in his second run of the game in the fifth. After Michael Taylor doubled and Jose Lobaton singled, the Chiefs completed a successful double steal to put runners on second and third. Zimmerman then hit a hard groundball to deep short, enough to reach on an infield single and score Taylor to push the lead to 5-1.

Voth was excellent in the win, allowed just three hits and one run in six strong innings. Voth walked two and struck out five.

The Chiefs broke the game open with three in the ninth. Lobaton singled, Zimmerman walked, and Skole singled to load the bases against Matt Crouse. After a force out at the plate, Matt den Dekker hit a groundball to first. Huffman got the first out at second, but the return throw was late, allowing Zimmerman to score and stretch the lead to 6-1. Then Jason Martinson knocked a two-RBI triple to right-center field to cap the scoring at 8-1.

Syracuse and Toledo return to Fifth Third Field Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Mat Latos is scheduled to make his Chiefs debut opposite Buck Farmer for the Mud Hens.
