
Janesville Uses Shootout To Best Michigan, 4-3

Janesville, WI - Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Janesville Jets defeated the Michigan Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).
The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. Michigan's shootout goals were scored by AJ Marcinek and Jake Faiella. In addition to the clincher, Janesville got shootout goals from Robin Hoglund and Jordan Himley.
The Jets put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.9 they average per game.
Janesville was led by Hoglund, who had two goals. Hoglund scored the first of his two goals at 7:53 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Adam Winborg assisted on the tally. Hoglund's next tally made the score 3-2 Janesville with 7:07 left in the third period. Nick Petrella picked up the assist. Janesville also got a goal from Himley as well. More assists for Janesville came via Alex Shuchuk, Mike Sullivan, and Cole Pierce, who contributed one a piece.
The Warriors were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Michigan had been spending in the box. The Warriors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Michigan's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring three goals and taking 10 shots.
The Warriors were led by Faiella, who racked up two goals. Faiella scored the first of his two goals at 1:29 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Connor Lyons assisted on the tally. Faiella's next tally made the score 3-3 with 4:19 left in the third period. Joshua Shellman also scored for Michigan.
The Jets' Brock Kautz stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Janesville ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Trevor Gorsuch made 36 saves for Michigan on 39 shots. The Warriors registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Michigan, TJ Stuntz was ejected from the game.
