
Soo Uses Shootout to Best Port Huron, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Soo Eagles defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).
The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.
Soo came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Eagles was down 2-1 after a goal by Port Huron's Logan Lambdin at 15:39 in the second period. Soo knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mike Sabatini at 16:52 in the second period.
The Eagles stifled the Fighting Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.3 shots per game it averages.
The Eagles were helped by Bruno Birzitis, who grabbed one goal. Birzitis scored 3:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo. Filip Winkler assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Michael Caruso and AJ Jarosz, who each chipped in one.
Port Huron put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Soo to score on any of its four power plays. By firing 37 shots on goal, the Fighting Falcons exceeded the 27.3 shots they average per game this year.
Matt Jones also scored for Port Huron. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Jon Hall and Bryce VanHorn, who contributed one a piece.
Colin Brennan made 35 saves for the Eagles on 37 shots. Soo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Max Milosek rejected 39 shots on goal for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
