Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - On a night when the Jamestown Jammers wore 1941 throwback Jamestown Falcons uniforms, Josh Hodges delivered a retro performance as the Jammers blanked Aberdeen, 5-0, at Diethrick Park Friday night.
Hodges hurled six shutout innings and beneï¬Âted from two double plays to earn his fourth
win of the season. Mahoning Valley beat Lowell to stay tied with Jamestown for ï¬Ârst at 23-18.
Terrence Dayleg paced the offense with three hits including his team leading fourth
homer. Ryan Goetz and Austin Barnes also chipped in with two singles apiece.
In the second inning, Jamestown got on the board with some two-out lightning. Nestor
Castillo reached on an inï¬Âeld single to third then Marquise Cooper walked to put runners at ï¬Ârst and second. Goetz drilled a line drive to right ï¬Âeld to get the ï¬Ârst run on the board then a passed ball plated Cooper from third. Barnes roped one to center to bring in the third run.
Aberdeen had a chance to take the momentum back in the third after loading the bases
with one out on two hits and a walk; however, Hodges induced a double play to escape the jam.
After the IronBirds failed to capitalize, the Jammers tacked on an insurance run in the
bottom of the third inning. Brian McConkey walked then swiped second base to get in scoring position before Rony Peralta served one into right ï¬Âeld to score the fourth run.
Ryan Berry relieved Aberdeen starter Parker Bridwell in the ï¬Âfth inning, and it proved to
be the wrong move as Dayleg crushed a leadoff homer over the left ï¬Âeld fence to put the game out of reach.
The IronBirds had an opportunity to get on the board with one out in the sixth and
runners at the corners, but Joe Velleggia ï¬âew into a double play after Mychal Givens tried to tag from ï¬Ârst to escape unscathed again.
From that point on, Aberdeen would not threaten again as the Jammers recorded their
third shutout of the season behind strong outings from Frankie Reed and Collin Cargill.
Offensively, Glynn Davis and Austin Knight each had two hits for Aberdeen.
The Jammers now head to Staten Island for three games before returning home Tuesday.
