Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY --- The Jamestown Jammers used a four-run fifth inning to complete a three-game sweep of Vermont with a 6-3 New York-Penn League victory on Monday night at Diethrick Park as the Lake Monsters finished 1-5 on their six-game roadtrip to Williamsport and Jamestown.

The Jammers led by a run when they scored four runs on six hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. After Vermont starter Cristhian Perez recorded the first out of the inning, Jamestown got a single and double before a Carl Anderson two-run single. Anderson was tagged out trying to advance on the hit, but the Jammers were able to score two more runs in the inning with the help of two walks followed by RBI singles off reliever Michael Fagen by Kevin Krause and Kevin Ross.

Vermont had scored its first run of the game in the fourth on a walk, Max Kuhn double and an RBI groundout from Jose Brizuela. The Lake Monsters added another run in the seventh on a run-scoring wild pitch, then scored another run in the eighth on an Andy Paz RBI single to cut deficit to 6-3. The Paz RBI single was the only hit of the night in 16 at bats for Vermont with runners in scoring position, while the Jammers were 5-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Lake Monsters had chances in both the eighth and ninth to creep closer. They left the bases loaded in the eighth and were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth after a leadoff walk and infield single, but Ryan Huck popped out and Kuhn hit into a game-ending double play to give Vermont (11-20) its third straight loss overall and its eighth straight loss at Jamestown dating back to the 2008 season.

Anderson and Erik Lunde both went 1-for-4 with two RBI for Jamestown (12-18), while reliever Jose Regalado (4-2) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the victory and Eric Karch a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season. Perez (1-2) was charged with five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss, while Kuhn had two of Vermont's seven hits for the game.

After an off day on Tuesday, the Lake Monsters return to historic Centennial Field on Wednesday to open a six-game homestand through Monday, July 21st. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the Pinckney Divison-leading State College Spikes (23-8), winners of five straight and 13 of their last 14 games, and closes with a three-game series against the McNamara Division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades (23-8), who have won 14 of their last 18 games.
