Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

IronBirds Fall to Doubledays, 5-3; Winning Streak Snappped

Despite a solid effort from the IronBirds' bullpen last night, Aberdeen fell to the Auburn Doubledays, 5-3. The Doubledays scored two runs off IronBirds starter Steve Johnson in the first inning and never surrendered the lead. Johnson got the loss on the day, while Auburn starter Matt Derosier earned the win. Tyler Mapes earned the save for the Doubledays.

Home Run Happy

Riley Palmer hit his first home run of his professional career last night in the sixth inning just a day after Steve Wilkerson hit the first home run of his professional career. It marks the time on the season that the IronBirds have hit home runs on back-to-back days at Ripken Stadium.

The Wizard of Oz

Oswill Lartiguez reached base five times last night, courtesy of a double, three singles, and one base on balls. He's just the second IronBird to record four hits in a single game with the last being Jay Gonzalez, who has accomplished the feat twice. Lartiguez's four-hit game last night is his fourth multi-hit game on the season, as already has two two-hit games and one three-hit games.

Aberdeen Searches For Fourth Straight Series Win

With a win tonight, the IronBirds would clinch their fourth straight series victory and their second straight series victory at Ripken Stadium. The IronBirds haven't won four straight series since July of 2013 when they defeated Hudson Valley, Brooklyn, Tri-City, and then State College in a rain-shortened series.

On the Mound Tonight...

The IronBirds will send LHP Stephen Tarpley to the mound tonight against the Doubledays. Tarpley's last outing came against the Yankees in Staten Island, where he pitched 3.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, two earned runs, walked four, and struck out four. The Doubledays will send RHP Drew Van Orden to the mound tonight against Aberdeen. In his last start, Van Orden faced the State College Spikes, pitching 3.1 innings, walked one batter, and struck out two.
