Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Rockford, ILâ The Rockford RiverHawks completed another three-game sweep of the Mid-Missouri Mavericks, but it was anything but a laugher.
Frank James scattered five hits over eight innings and Josh Latimer stranded the tying run at the end of Rockford's 3-2 win at Marinelli Field.
The RiverHawks, 6-0 against the Mavs, won the first two games by 12-3 and 14-2 scores.
Monday, Mid-Missouri jumped out to a first-inning lead on Blake Blase's two-run homer to left field, his seventh home run of the season and second in two nights.
The RiverHawks rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning on Rico Santana's two-out RBI single to right field, then scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Ryan Larson came home on an error and Ben Fjelland scored the winning run on a Steve Soja wild pitch.
It was Soja's only loss of control. Soja (1-1) lost a complete-game effort despite striking out seven without a walk.
James (3-1) retired six in a row after Blase's homer and the last 10 he faced. Blase led off the ninth with a single off Latimer, but the Rockford closer retired the next three to earn his fifth save.
The River City Rascals come in for three 7:05 p.m. games the next three nights. Tuesday is a Two-For-Tuesday. Hot dogs and soda are available at Two-For-$2 pricing.
All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 â the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
