Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Jamaal Tatum posted 21 points and 10 assists as the Idaho Stampede earned a 97-94 victory over the visiting Austin Toros on Saturday night. The Stampede remain undefeated at home with the win, while snapping Austin's nine-game winning streak in the process.

Idaho trailed 74-68 at the end of the third quarter after the Toros closed the quarter with back-to-back three-pointers by Carldell Johnson and Mohammed Abukar in the final minute.

The Toros were able to maintain that lead through much of the fourth quarter, until a Luke Jackson free throw tied the game at 89 with 3:10 remaining. A free throw by Tatum with 1:45 left on the clock gave the Stampede their first lead in the final quarter. Toros forward Charles Gaines hit one of two free throws with 1:20 left to tie the game back up at 92.

With the game still tied at 92 with 37 seconds remaining, Andre Brown shot a driving lay-up which would've given the Toros the lead, but his shot was blocked by Brent Petway, who in total blocked six shots on the night. Immediately following the blocked shot, Tatum drove the lane and passed it to Petway who finished the play with a sweet alley-oop dunk, giving the Stampede a 94-92 lead it would not relinquish.

"Good weekend for us, we wanted to play the best basketball we could and I feel we did that tonight." said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "It was a fun game, you can see why Austin is such a good team."

Coby Karl and Luke Jackson added 18 points apiece and Jermareo Davidson collected 12 points and 12 rebounds, finishing the game with his league-leading ninth double-double of the season.

Austin was led by Andre Brown and Malike Hairston who each scored 21 points. Charles Gaines added 19 points, in the loss.

Both teams head to Orem, Utah for the 2009 NBA Development League Showcase.
