Energy Fall Short Against Ft. Wayne in OT

FT. WAYNE, IN - The Iowa Energy rallied from a 10 point deficit with 1:44 left in the game to force overtime, but fell short in the extra session as the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants defeated Iowa 121-117 in Ft. Wayne.

Ft. Wayne's Walter Sharpe, recently assigned to the team by the Detroit Pistons, hit a fade-away 3-pointer late in overtime to put the Mad Ants ahead for good. Mad Ant guard Walker Russell Jr. iced the game with two free throws in the final seconds to give Ft. Wayne the division win.

The Energy looked finished late in the 4th quarter, as they were down by five points with 24.6 seconds remaining. Energy guard Curtis Stinson drew a foul and made the first free throw. Stinson missed the second, but the rebound was tipped out to Energy forward Cartier Martin who buried a 3-pointer to make it a one point game. After Chris Hunter made two free throws to go up three, Martin banked in a 3-pointer to send the game to overtime.

Martin led the Energy with a career high 37 points. Courtney Sims added 24 points and 16 rebounds while former Iowa State Cyclone Curtis Stinson scored 12 points and corralled a career high 17 rebounds in defeat.

Ft. Wayne was led by guard Walker Russell Jr. who tallied 25 points and dished out 11 assists.

Iowa led the game by 13 points at halftime, only be outscored 35 to 14 in the 3rd quarter.

Despite the defeat, Iowa holds the D-League's best record at 8-2. Ft. Wayne improves to 5-7 with the win. The Energy and Mad Ants tangle again on Sunday at 5pm Central in Ft. Wayne.
