Jam Lose Shootout in Triple OT

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF., November 18, 2014 - Despite Elijah Millsap's triple-double and double-doubles from Mac Koshwal and Xavier Munford, the Bakersfield Jam (1-2) lost to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3-0) in triple-overtime 151-148 on Tuesday night.

After trailing 34-32 at the end of the first quarter, the Jam outscored the Vipers 35-20 in the second quarter and went into the half with a 67-54 lead. After maintaining the lead for most of the second half, Bakersfield struggled on defensive side in the fourth quarter and got outscored by Rio Grande Valley 40-30 to force overtime.

During the three overtime periods, both teams converted on wild shots making it an entertaining finish. With 11.6 seconds left in triple-overtime and trailing 151-148, the Jam had a chance to tie it and send it to yet another overtime session but missed a three-pointer as time expired.

The Jam held the advantage in rebounds (72-55), steals (15-10), points in the paint (72-64) and second chance points (29-18), while the Vipers shot better from the field (50.0%-43.5%) and had more blocks (12-4).

Earl Barron led Bakersfield's scoring attack with 30 to go along with 15 rebounds. Munford tallied 29 points and 14 assists, while Millsap recorded a triple-double with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Koshwal contributed a double-double of his own with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Casey Prather (18), Jamil Wilson (12) and Renaldo Major (11) also scored in double-figures for the Jam.

Houston Rockets assignee Nick Johnson led the Vipers with a game-high 39 points. Earl Clark chipped in a double-double with 35 points and 11 rebounds, while Tony Bishop finished with 31 points and eight rebounds.

Bakersfield will next have a match against the Reno Bighorns on Friday, November 21. Tip off is set at 7:00 p.m. PT at the Dignity Health Event Center.
