Jam Drop Second Straight Home Game
January 17, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Bakersfield Jam News Release
(Bakersfield, Calif.) - Frustration reigned supreme at the Jam Events Center on Saturday night, where the Bakersfield Jam once again faltered down the stretch and ultimately lost 103-96 at the hands of the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Ryan Forehan-Kelly (6-for-7 FG, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) powered Los Angeles for much of the game, scoring 19 of his 21 points in the first three stanzas and adding two late free throws to help seal the victory. But in the final 12 minutes it was reserve guard Joe Crawford - who recently lost his starting job to Horace Wormely - controlling the game, as he shot 5-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line to score 13 fourth-quarter points and ensure a D-Fenders win.
The matchup was a see-saw battle that featured 14 lead changes, the last coming with less than three minutes remaining in the game before bad offensive possessions and unfortunate fouls on the defensive end led to an eight-point Jam deficit by game's end. Before fouling out in the final minute, Brian Butch posted a monstrous double-double for Bakersfield with 31 points and 12 rebounds to go with an impressive defensive performance that saw him tally three steals and three blocks.
Frank Robinson (17 points, 7 assists) and Diamon Simpson (16 points, 8 rebounds) rounded out the double-digit scorers for a Los Angeles team that shot 54.7% from the field on the game. The 5'7" Wormely also contributed for the D-Fenders, pulling in a surprising eight boards to go with nine points and four assists.
Jared Newson played well off the Bakersfield bench, scoring 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go with 8 rebounds. Reece Gaines (12 points, 5 assists) and Blake Ahearn (10 points, 2 assists) both reached double figures for the Jam but combined to shoot only 6-for-18 from the floor, as missed shots made the difference for a Bakersfield team that hung tough on the boards (each team finished with 34 rebounds) despite entering the game at a significant disadvantage in that department.
The Jam Events Center doors will re-open quickly for a 4 pm Sunday matchup with the Utah Flash, as Bakersfield attempts to salvage a 2-2 split on its four-game homestand. The D-Fenders are off until Friday, January 22 when they travel to Dakota for a 5 pm meeting with the Wizards.
