
Jacobs Goes Yard Again as 'Dogs Clinch Series in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Brandon Jacobs homered again as the Saltdogs (44-38) downed the Joplin Blasters (29-53) 8-5 at Joe Becker Stadium Wednesday night.
Lincoln is now 7-0 in southwest Missouri this year, and remains in a tie for the Central division lead with Sioux City, with 18 games remaining.
Jacobs' eighth long ball of the season broke a 2-2 tie to lead off the sixth. With two out and two strikes, John Contreras swatted a three-run opposite field home run to make it 6-2.
Shairon Martis (8-7) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts to earn the win. Matt Larkins worked the final two frames for his first save.
The American Association batting leader Curt Smith went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
Tyler Urps went 1-for-5 with a bunt single to extend his hit streak to 14 games.
Lincoln goes for the four-game sweep Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. All Star RHP Lindsey Caughel (5-3, 2.08) is slated to face RHP Alex De La Cruz (2-5, 5.80). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR FM 103.3/1240 AM.
