Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
WILMINGTON, DEL. (APRIL 28, 2015) -- The Chicago Cubs have promoted Myrtle Beach Pelicans outfielder Jacob Hanneman to Double-A. In a corresponding roster move, outfielder Trey Martin has been promoted to the Pelicans from Class-A South Bend.
Hannemann, 23, will make his first trip to Double-A Tennessee. The Kahuku, Hawaii, native played 88 games with Class-A Kane County before being promoted to Advanced-A Daytona in July of last year, where he played another 36 contests. A left-handed hitter, he combined to hit .251 with 23 doubles, five triples and eight home runs. He also stole 37 bases, the most in the Cubs system. Chicago selected Hannemann in the third round of the 2013 draft out of Brigham Young University, where he also played on the football team as a wide receiver. His promotion comes at a time when Hannemann ranks fifth in the Carolina League in hitting with a .328 average over 16 games, having collected seven multi-hit games. He has also stolen seven bases, the fourth most in the league.
Martin, 22, was a 13th round selection by the Cubs in 2011 June Amateur Draft out of Brookwood (Ga.) High School. The Atlanta, Georgia, native comes to Myrtle Beach with a .250 average, collecting five doubles and a pair of triples over 16 games with Daytona. Along with seven multi-hit games, the right-handed hitter has also stolen six bases.
With the roster moves, the Pelicans roster remains at 25 active players, which is the Carolina League limit, and includes three players on the disabled list.
The Pelicans begin their second road trip of the year with a visit to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday, April 28, at Frawley Stadium. First pitch for Tuesday's contest is slated for 6:35 p.m. ET
The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the Pelicans franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
