Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 28, 2015) - The Dash bullpen did not allow an earned run in six frames, and both Trey Michalczewski and Jake Peter had two RBIs in Winston-Salem's fourth straight win, a 5-3 triumph over the Potomac Nationals on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark.
Dash (9-9) relievers Jose Brito (1-0), Michael Ynoa and Zach Isler combined for just two unearned runs in 6.0 innings in place of Winston-Salem starter James Dykstra, who departed from the game with back tightness while warming up before the fourth inning. The Dash bullpen trio yielded gave up two hits while walking three and fanning six.
Dykstra allowed a first-inning run but threw a scoreless second and third inning, scattering five total hits.
Down 1-0, Winston-Salem was able to grab the lead in the third. Nick Basto led off with a double and moved to third on Cleuluis Rondon's groundout to second. Potomac (9-10) starter John Simms (0-1) walked Keenyn Walker and issued a free pass to Adam Engel to load the bases. Peter ripped a base hit to bring in two and make it 2-1 Dash. Michalczewski's groundball to third plated Engel, and Winston-Salem had themselves a 3-1 advantage.
After the Nationals scored a run in the top of the sixth, Winston-Salem answered with Omar Narvaez's RBI single in the bottom of the frame to put the Dash up 4-2.
In the bottom of the eighth, P-Nats reliever Tyler Mapes, who worked 4.1 innings, retired the first two Winston-Salem batters but then ceded three consecutive hits to Engel, Peter and Michalczewski, with the last of the trio bringing in another run to put the Dash up 5-2.
Both Peter and Michalczewski had two hits and two RBIs, while Engel reached base three times and scored twice.
Michalczewski made an error on Khayyan Norfolk's groundball to start the ninth before Christopher Bostick's double brought the tying run to the plate. Jimmy Yezzo flew out to shallow right and Estarlin Martinez grounded out to score a run. With a runner on third in a 5-3 game, Isler retired Wilmer Difo on a grounder to first to seal the contest.
The Dash vie for at least a series win Wednesday by sending Jace Fry (0-3, 2.45 ERA) to the mound against Potomac's Wander Suero (3-0, 2.50 ERA). Pregame coverage is available on wsdash.com/broadcast at 10:45 a.m. and the TuneIn Radio app. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
