Jackets Win Second Straight over Greensboro

Greensboro, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 30-16) won their second straight over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (38-32, 17-30) with a 6-4 win Friday night. Starter Oliver Odle recorded the win and Augusta used a four run fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Augusta plated four runs in the fifth inning to open up a 6-1 lead over the Grasshoppers getting six consecutive singles to begin the half inning. Dom Duggan started the scoring with an RBI single for a 3-1 lead then Shane Jordan followed with a two run single for a 5-1 lead. Nick Noonan capped off the scoring with an RBI single for a 6-1 lead.

Odle (9-5) worked six innings and allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

Ryan Paul worked the final 1.2 scoreless innings for Augusta for his third save of the season. Paul walked one and struck out three.

Augusta took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple from Juan Ciriaco scoring Noonan then Ciriaco came in to score on a wild pitch.

Greensboro cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the first getting an RBI double from Matt Dominguez with two outs.

The Grasshoppers Tom Hickman led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer off of Andrew De La Garza to pull within 6-2.

Greensboro cut the lead to 6-4 on a two-run homer from Dominguez in the eighth inning off of Wilmin Rodriguez but that would be all they got

The GreenJackets and Grasshoppers continue their series Saturday night with Augusta sending lefty Madison Bumgarner (11-3, 1.70) to the mound. Greensboro counters with right-hander Stuart Alexander (8-8, 4.46). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Game Notes:

The GreenJackets improved to 33-23 on the road this season.

The GreenJackets have a 2.5 game in lead in the Southern Division.

Ryan Paul has allowed just two runs over his last 22 innings pitched out of the bullpen.
