Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO - Matt Dominguez put on a great show for the home crowd with his 3-for-4 performance which included a doubled and a two-run home run in the eighth inning, but the Hoppers were unable to rebound after giving up four runs in the fifth inning and suffered their second straight loss of the series, 6-4.
Prior to Dominguez's ninth home run of the season, Tom Hickman, playing in just his second game since coming off of the disabled list, hit a leadoff homer following the seventh inning stretch.
The pair of long balls brought Greensboro's season total to 128; their season mark is currently 28 more home runs than any other team in the South Atlantic League.
Mike Stanton joined Dominguez in the multi-hit column with a 2-for-4 performance of his own.
The four runs scored off starter Kyle Kaminska in the fifth inning dug a hole for the Hoppers. Kaminska faced four batters in the inning and all four eventually reached home; he was removed before recording an out in the frame and left the field after allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits. Kaminska also fanned a handful of GreenJacket batters.
Greensboro finished the contest with nine hits and used three relief pitchers to shut down Augusta during their five combined innings of work. Jay Voss did inherit two of Kaminska's runners in the fifth and allowed them to scored, but struck out two batters and allowed only two hits on his watch which including two innings of action.
The loss was Greensboro's third straight to the GreenJackets dating back to the final game of the season's first series when the Hoppers fell in the second game of a double-header in Augusta.
Game three of the four-game set is schedule for Saturday when RHP Alex Sanabia (5-3, 4.16) will face former first-round selection (10th overall, 2007) and left-handed hurler Madison Bumgarner (11-3, 1.70).
