Jackets Sink the Captains with Seventh Inning Rally

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 20-11) won their second straight game over the Lake County Captains (41-29, 12-19) on Monday night with a 2-1 win. Ryan Paul recorded the win in relief and Augusta scored twice in the seventh inning to rally from one run down.

Augusta trailed 1-0 and was held to one hit over the first 6.1 innings before Angel Villalona connected for a one-out solo homer in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1. Andrew Davis followed with a double and then scored when Elio Sarmiento singled to right field. On the play Matt Brown's throw into home skipped past the catcher allowing Davis to score to make it 2-1.

Paul (3-2) worked two perfect innings in relief while striking out one over the sixth and seventh innings.

Andrew De La Garza got his fifth save of the season getting the final five outs of the ball game.

The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single from Michael Valadez off starter Chance Corgan. Corgan allowed a two-out double to Matt Brown and then walked Jeff Hehr after a wild pitch moved Brown to third base.

Corgan worked 5.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out four.

The GreenJackets and Captains continue their series Tuesday night with Augusta sending left-hander Madison Bumgarner (9-3, 1.79) to the mound. Lake County will send right-hander Chris Archer (2-8, 4.07). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

The GreenJackets improved to 33-20 at home this season.

Villalona is tied with Thomas Neal for most home runs on the team with 11

Augusta was held to just two base runners over the first 6.1 innings by the Captains starter Joey Mahalic (L, 6-4), a hit and a walk.
