Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Tourists and BlueClaws once again battled into extra innings and for the second night in a row, Lakewood battled back to win - this time by a 6-5 margin. Clutch hitting prevailed as Lakewood scored all six runs with two outs. With two outs in the top of the tenth, Joel Naughton brought home Freddy Galvis with an RBI single off Matthew Reynolds. Galvis doubled and advanced to third on a Brian Rike throwing error. Trailing by a pair of runs entering the bottom of the ninth for the second night in a row, the Tourists pulled off a little magic to tie the game at five. With two runners on base, Everth Cabrera singled home Lars Davis to bring the Tourists to within a run on his second RBI of the night. Michael Mitchell stepped up with the tying run on third and delivered with his second RBI of the night, a single to tie the game for the second consecutive night. Sergio Escalona (5-1) struck out Kevin Clark and got Darin Holcomb to ground into a fielder's choice to send the game into extras. Newcomer Bo Bowman, in his Tourists debut, singled with two outs in the bottom of the tenth in an attempt to spark a second Tourists rally. The rally died and the game ended when Lars Davis grounded out to third to end the ballgame.

Lakewood struck first blood early in the ballgame with three runs. Galvis provided a two-RBI double and Naughton singled to bring him in to hang three runs on starter Robinson Fabian. Fabian allowed just three earned runs and settled down after a rocky second to toss six innings on eight hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. Asheville began their first comeback in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. After a pair of singles, Everth Cabrera knocked an RBI double to left field to bring in Bowman and David Christensen scored on Mitchell's groundout to tie the game at three. Lakewood rebounded in the sixth with a run on a TJ Warren groundout and another in the seventh on a Galvis single to give the BlueClaws what they thought was a commanding 5-3 lead. Despite blowing the save in the ninth, Escalona picked up the win with two innings of relief. Reynolds (3-1) was tagged for his first loss of the year.

The two teams meet for game three on Tuesday night with Sheng-An Kuo (8-6, 4.50) getting his second start of the homestand to take on Vance Worley (1-0, 1.00). Bring three unused or gently-worn clothing items to the ballpark and receive a free general admission ticket to the game on the third Goodwill Night of the year. It's also a Kids Eat Free night compliments of Papa John's. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on the Tourists flagship station WRES-FM, 100.7.
