(OTTAWA) The Ottawa Rapidz hosted the New Jersey Jackals for the third of four games in their opening homestand at Rapidz Stadium. The final score of the game was 6-1 in favour of the New Jersey Jackals. The attendance for tonight's game was 2,213.

The match-up tonight featured a pitching duel between the Rapidz Orlando Trias and Juan Done for the New Jersey Jackals. Trias who was credited with the loss, went 5 2/3 innings, allowed three runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking one. However, he was outdueled by Done, who earned the victory for the Jackals. Done pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Jackals got solid support from their relievers, as Brandon Martin, Joe D'Alessandro, Ted Serro and Rusty Tucker gave their team three innings of work, allowing only one run on two hits, and struck out four batters. For the Rapidz, Noel Baca III pitched 1 1/3 inning, giving up two runs, only one being earned. Jason Pilkington took the mound in the eighth and allowed one earned run while striking out two.

The Jackals got on the board first in the top of the second. After Matt Lauderdale doubled and Andrew Larsen followed with a double two batters later, the Jackals got off to a 1-0 lead. The Jackals pounced again in the top of the fifth, after a walk was surrendered to Casey Gordon, he advanced to second on an infield groundball to third and then was driven home on a two-out double by Marcus Sanders.

The Jackals continued their rally into the sixth inning. After a lead-off double by Chris Kelly, he advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Lauderdale. Scott White then collected his first RBI of the game by hitting a deep fly ball to centre field to score Kelly from third, to increase the Jackals lead to 3-0.

The lead for the Jackals was enlarged to five after the Jackals scored twice in the top of the seventh inning. Baca III surrendered a leadoff walk to Gordon and Zach Smithlin bunted himself aboard. Sanders then drove in Gordon with a sacrifice fly and Kelly picked up a single for his second hit of the game. This scored Smithlin who had stolen second base a few pitches prior to Kelly's single.

With the score 5-0 in favour of the visiting team, Maxime Bouchard drove in the Rapidz only run of the night, when he committed into a grounder to short with the bases loaded, scoring Jabe Bergeron on the play.

The Jackals completed the score in the top of the ninth on a double by Lauderdale, scoring Smithlin on the play. Smithlin with two runs scored, Sanders who drove in two, Kelly, Lauderdale, and Larsen each got a pair of hits.

The next game for the Rapidz is Kids Opening Day, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 25th in Ottawa at 1:05 pm against the New Jersey Jackals. Greg Bunn (0-0) will take the mound for the Rapidz against Isaac Pavlik (0-0). The Rapidz will unveil their new mascot for the occasion.
