New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ The New Jersey Jackals knocked the monkey off their backs, by defeating the Quebec Les Capitales for the first time in 2005, 7-3. It was also New Jersey's first win in Quebec dating back to 2003 and Les Capitales sixth loss at home this season.

Quebec reached New Jersey starter Josh Brey immediately, touching him up for two runs in the first. Eddie Lantigua drove in a run on a groundout, to earn the Quebec record for RBIs in a season. Dany Scalabrini also scored on a passed ball, to make it 2-0.

Two innings later, the Jackals stole the lead from Quebec. With two outs, and the bases loaded. John Lindsey doubled deep to center field score all three runners, making it a 3-2 lead for New Jersey.

Brey and Quebec starter Rick Kirsten then took over the ballgame. Kirsten gave up one hit entering the seventh after New Jersey's big third inning, while Josh Brey gave up only one hit entering the sixth.

Les Capitales made a run at the Jackals in the bottom of the sixth. They scored a run on an Oliver Lepine RBI single to even the score. But the deadlock at three runs a piece wouldn't last. The Jackals went all out in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on Kirsten. Chris Rowan drove in the leading run on a double, Rowan scored on an error by Lee Delfino, and Joe Jiannetti finished off the inning with a two RBI single putting the Jackals in front 7-3 to stay

Josh Brey was sensational for the Jackals. He went a complete game, and bounced back after a shaky start to the contest. He allowed only four hits, and struck out seven as well. The loss went to Quebec's Rick Kirsten.
