North Shore Spirit News Release
The North Shore Spirit snapped a four game home losing streak Tuesday night with a 7-5 come from behind victory over the Worcester Tornadoes.
Bryan Morse pitched eight innings to pick up his league leading eighth win of the year. Morse allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Alex Herrera recorded the final three outs to pick up his first save of the season. Mike Cox (1-3) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs in only an inning of work.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth. Worcester right fielder Keith Beauregard led off with a double down the line in left and moved to third on a Danilo Reynoso fielders' choice. Alex Nunez then hit a chopper to second that was misplayed by Marcos Agramonte, allowing Beauregard to score the games first run. After a sacrifice bunt by Lucas Taylor put runners on second and third, Josh Beauregard put the Tornadoes up 3-0 with an RBI single to right.
The Spirit got on the board in the sixth. Travis Oglesby got things started with a line drive single. Brian Macchi followed with a long homerun to center field, cutting the deficit to a single run.
Worcester extended their advantage in the seventh. Reynoso connected for his 9th homerun of the season, a solo shot deep over the fence in left center.
The barrage of homeruns continued in the bottom of the seventh. Travis Oglesby again pulled the Spirit to within one run with a monster opposite field homerun, his 14th of the year.
North Shore completed the comeback in the eighth. With one out, Yuri Sanchez legged out an infield hit and moved to second when Garrett Weir was hit by a pitch. Rob Fischer pulled the Spirit even with an RBI single. Vic Davilla then drove home the game-winning run with a line drive basehit to left that scored Weir from second base. North Shore would tack on two more thanks to a throwing error by Yohanny Valera and a sac fly by Oglesby.
The Tornadoes got the tying run into scoring position in the ninth, but Herrera struck out Josh Beauregard to quell the threat and end the game.
The Spirit and Tornadoes will play the final game of this series tomorrow night at 7:05PM.
