Jackals to Meet Rival Royals in Eastern

The Elmira Jackals and their Atlantic Division rivals, the Reading Royals, will meet in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The series will begin this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sovereign Center in Reading for the first two games.

The Jackals and the Royals will make the 220-mile trip to Elmira for the final three games on Friday, Saturday (if necessary), and Monday (if necessary) at First Arena.

All games in the series will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The Jackals are the top seed in the Eastern Conference, posting a 45-22-2-3 record during the regular season. The Royals are the eighth seed in the conference, defeating the Trenton Titans on the final day of the regular season and then using a loss by the Chicago Express to the Cincinnati Cyclones that night to clinch the final playoff spot. Reading went 36-28-4-4 in the 2011-2012 campaign.

Elmira and Reading met in the opening round of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Royals defeated the Jackals in the series, four games to two, ending Elmira's first season in the ECHL. This is the second time the two teams have met in the playoffs.
