Jackals Take Three In Waiver Draft
April 12, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have selected three players and dropped five in Monday afternoon's UHL Waiver Draft.
The Jackals selected Richmond defenseman Ivan Curic, Flint goalie Marco Emond and Fort Wayne defenseman Kevin Bertram, while waiving six players from the roster, RW Charlie Elezi, LW Derek Campbell, D Chris Shaw, D Alex Andreyev, D Bill Cass and LW Adam Nittel. Of the six placed on waivers only Derek Campbell was picked up, taken by Flint in the fourth round. The other five players are now free agents. Aside from the 20-man roster, Elmira protected LW Dean Jackson in the team's Injured Reserve spot and C Gary Bowman was the lone North American Amateur Draft Pick listed by the Jackals.
At 6'6" 245 lbs Ivan Curic provided his large presence with three different UHL teams this season. He played most of the season for Port Huron and Richmond, adding 6 games for Danbury along the way. He had 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) and 180 penalty minutes in 72 total games played in 2004-05.
Goaltender Marco Emond, who played for the Jackals in 2002-03, split most of this season with Dan McIntyre in Flint. He posted a 14-13-4 record in 34 games played, with a 2.71 goals against average and a 0.911 save percentage.
28 year-old Kevin Bertram did not see much action this season. After playing 72 games for Fort Wayne in 2003-04, the 6'4" 215 lbs defenseman appeared in just 6 games this year for the Komets, recording 6 penalty minutes and a -3 rating.
NOTES: All UHL teams were required to submit their end of the season 20-man roster prior to the draft; rosters are the combination of skaters and goaltenders, most commonly at the ratio of 18 skaters and 2 goalies. Along with the 20-man roster, teams can protect one player as an Injured Reserve spot, an emergency goaltender spot and up to four players taken in the North American Amateur Draft; those players must be signed with the team to be eligible for protection. For each selection made in the Waiver Draft, the selecting team must then place a player from their final roster on waivers to make room for the new selection, once all teams have passed the draft ends.
