UHL's 14th regular season concludes

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The United Hockey League (UHL) wrapped up its 560-game regular season on Sunday. League attendance was 1,811,729 with an average of 3,235 fans per game. The Muskegon Fury won the Tarry Cup Championship as the team with the best overall record. The Fury compiled a record of 51-20-9 and 111 points in the standings to earn the second Tarry Cup in Muskegon team history. Defending Tarry Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets were runner-up after earning a record of 51-24-5 and 107 points in the standings. Muskegon's 51 wins and 111 points in the standings were the most in team history. The Fury had the UHL's best home record at 31-6-3. The 31 wins were the most in team history and tie the UHL record shared by the 1999-2000 Flint Generals and the 1997-98 Quad City Mallards. Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO, will be in Muskegon on Friday, April 15th for the opening game of their first round series to present the team with the Tarry Cup trophy.

SCORING CHAMP – Adirondack Frostbite left wing Hugo Belanger won the UHL regular season scoring title by recording 106 points (34g, 72a). It is the third time that Belanger has earned the UHL scoring title. He previously won the scoring title during the 2000-01 and 2002-03 seasons.

PLAYOFFS SET – Central Division winner Muskegon earned the 1st seed for the 2005 Colonial Cup Playoffs. Western Division winner Fort Wayne earned the 2nd seed and Eastern Division winner Adirondack earned the 3rd seed. Kalamazoo receives the 4th seed, Rockford receives the 5th seed, and Danbury receives the 6th seed as each finished second in their respective division. Missouri earned the 7th seed and Quad City earned the 8th seed as the two teams with next highest totals in the UHL overall standings. Teams advancing to the second round and third round will be re-seeded based on their total points in the final standings. Teams with the higher seed will have home-ice advantage. All three rounds of the Colonial Cup Playoffs are a best-of-seven series. Each of the four series will begin Friday, April 15th.

NAME ANNOUNCED – The new team in Roanoke, Virginia now has a new identity. The team will be named the Roanoke Valley Vipers. The announcement was made on Saturday at intermission of the Motor City vs. Richmond game hosted by the Roanoke Civic Center. The logo is being developed by Flynnagain Productions and will be unveiled in the near future. The Roanoke Valley Vipers will begin play in the 2005-06 season.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Adirondack Frostbite - (1-2-0) – Left wing Hugo Belanger led the UHL in scoring with 106 points (34g, 72a)... Scott Drevitch led all UHL defensemen in scoring with 61 points (13g, 48a)...The Frostbite set team highs this season with 48 wins and 104 points in the standings. They also had the fewest losses (24) and fewest penalty minutes (1,451) in team history...Right wing Justin Kelly reached 100 points for his career on Saturday vs. Elmira when he notched two assists...Adirondack was involved in 38 one-goal games this season. Their record in those games was 23-7-8.

Danbury Trashers - (1-2-1) – Danbury led the UHL with 20 shorthanded goals this season...The Trashers had the second most wins (28) at home in the UHL...Several Trashers set career highs during the season; center Bruce Richardson 62 assists, 87 points; left wing Mike Bayrack 37 goals, 73 points; center Jeff Daw 29 goals, 47 assists; right wing Doug Christiansen 62 points; defenseman J.F. David 41 points...Forward Alex Goupil led Danbury rookies with 39 points (25g, 14 assists). That total also placed him in a tie for tenth among all UHL rookies... Goaltender Scott Stirling set a personal best with 35 wins. That total led all UHL goaltenders.

Elmira Jackals - (1-2-0) – The Jackals missed the playoffs for the first time in their five-year history. They went to the playoffs in each of their first four seasons and went to the Colonial Cup Finals twice...Left wing Derek Campbell led Elmira with 228 penalty minutes. That total was second most amongst UHL rookies...Defenseman Chris Shaw was second on the team with 202 penalty minutes and fifth amongst UHL rookies...Captain Trevor Burgess was voted by Elmira fans and media as the Jackals player of the year.

Flint Generals - (0-2-2) – Flint was shutout 5-0 on Friday vs. Danbury. It was the fifth time they had been shutout this season and also their largest margin of defeat...The Generals lost their last three shootouts. They set a team record with 14 shootout losses and 10 shootout losses on the road...Right wing Jason Selleke had a goal in five of the last seven games...Right wing Bobby Reynolds finished second in UHL scoring with 103 points (31g, 72a)... Right wing Mike Kinnie finished second among UHL rookies with 81 points (37g, 44a).

Fort Wayne Komets - (3-1-0) - The Komets finished second overall in the UHL with a 51-24-5 record (107 pts)... Defenseman Rob Guinn skated in all 80 Komet games this season...Left wing Sean Venedam recorded his 500th career point on Friday vs. Missouri when he added an assist on P.C. Drouin's game-winning goal...Left wing Adam Kostichka scored his first professional goal on Saturday vs. Quad City. He was Fort Wayne's 2nd round draft pick in the UHL North American Amateur Draft...Center Colin Chaulk had a career best 73 assists and 92 points. The 73 assists led the UHL...Defenseman Troy Neumeier led the UHL this season with a plus-47 rating.

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-2-0) – Kalamazoo has won 11 of their last 13 games...Forward Sean Starke finished the UHL regular season riding a four-game point streak...Center Andrew Luciuk's nine-game point streak was snapped on Friday vs. Rockford...Kalamazoo set a team record for average attendance this season with 3,105 fans per game...Goaltender Joel Martin set K-Wings UHL season records with a 2.20 GAA and a .920 save percentage... Chad Alban finished in a tie for second among UHL goaltenders with 33 wins.

Kansas City Outlaws - (1-2-0) – The Outlaws were 5-3-2 in their last 10 home games...Kansas City was 18-0-1 in games in which they scored four or more goals and 5-35-1 when allowing four or more goals...Right wing Joe Seroski tied for third in the UHL with 42 goals and was second with 21 power play goals...Left wing Jason Ruff was 14th in UHL scoring with 80 points (29g, 51a)...Among UHL rookies, left wing Mark Lee was second in assists (47) and third in points (67)...Maxime Gingras was second among UHL goaltenders in shootout wins (7) and fifth in saves (1,628).

Missouri River Otters - (2-1-0) – Missouri set a team record in wins (42) this season and fewest goals allowed (224)...Kevin Reiter recorded his fifth shutout of the season in Sunday's 1-0 win vs. Rockford. The Otters established a new UHL record with 12 shutouts this season...Reiter tied a team high with 52 saves in Saturday's 3-2 win vs. Kalamazoo...Right wing Frank Littlejohn set a personal best with 33 goals this season...Mat Snesrud finished second among UHL defensemen with 56 points (10g, 46a) while Mike Dombkiewicz finished tied for second among UHL defensemen with 13 goals.

Motor City Mechanics - (4-0-0) – Right wing Joe Burton notched his 600th career goal in the second period of Wednesday's 4-2 victory vs. Muskegon. The game also marked the first time the Mechanics have defeated Muskegon...Motor City finished the season on a 12-game win streak to push their record above .500 (37-36-7)... Motor City went 18-2 since Danton Cole took over as head coach...Center Chris Gignac had a five-point week (2g, 3a)...Newcomers Tom Welch (2g) and Rob Sich (1g, 1a) each recorded their first professional points in Sunday's 4-1 win vs. Elmira.

Muskegon Fury - (1-2-0) – Muskegon ranked #1 in the UHL in goals scored (285) and goals allowed (195)...Their power play (23.4%) and penalty kill (89.0%) also led the UHL...Right wing Robin Bouchard led the UHL for the sixth time with 22 power play goals...Left wing B.J. Gaustad led the UHL in shooting percentage (.221) and was third in the league with a plus-36...Defenseman Dave Van Drunen was second in the UHL with a plus-37...Sylvain Daigle led UHL goaltenders with a 2.08 GAA and a .930 save percentage...Rookie goaltender Clayton Pool finished fourth in the UHL with a 2.37 GAA...Muskegon outscored their opponents on the road 117-61...Muskegon was 40-0-1 when scoring four or more goals.

Port Huron Beacons - (4-0-0) – Defenseman Chris Slater was riding a seven-game point streak to end the season. He was second among UHL defensemen with 8 power play goals...Left wing David Beauregard led the UHL with 47 goals...Left wing Trevor Edwards finished 7th among UHL rookies with 44 points (19g, 25a)...Gabriel Proulx tied for second among UHL defenseman in goals (13)...Center Aaron Brand finished the season in a tie for third on the Beacons all-time scoring list with 137 points (61g, 76a).

Quad City Mallards - (3-1-0) – Forward Mike Kompon notched a hat trick on Sunday vs. Flint. It was his 11th multi-goal game of the year...Kompon led all UHL rookies with 39 goals, 51 assists, and 90 points...Forward Dave Stewart led the Mallards 325 penalty minutes this season. It is the sixth time in his six pro seasons that he has led his team in penalty minutes...Defenseman Alexander Skorohod scored his first professional goal on Sunday... Center Jason Deskins finished the regular season with points in six of his last seven games. He had 11 points (2g, 9a) during that span...Quad City had seven shorthanded goals this season. Each was scored by a different player.

Richmond RiverDogs - (1-2-0) – Right wing David Hymovitz finished third in UHL scoring with 100 points (32g, 68a). He appeared in all 80 RiverDogs games this season...Luch Nasato finished third among UHL defensemen with 52 points (11g, 41a) and 66 minor penalties...Right wing David Brosseau's eight-game goal streak was snapped on Wednesday vs. Adirondack. The streak was a UHL season high...Richmond allowed the most goals in the UHL this season (319).

Rockford IceHogs - (1-2-0) – Rockford set team records for wins (46), road wins (21), winning percentage (.631), and tied the team record for home wins (25)...Rockford was the only UHL team to not allow a shorthanded goal on the road...The IceHogs welcomed a team record 147,717 fans this season...Forwards Oliver Proulx, Miguel Lafleche, and defenseman Steve Pelletier played in all 80 IceHogs games this season...Michel Robinson led UHL goaltenders with 3,816 minutes played. The mark is also a Rockford team record...Winger Eric Labelle became the first IceHogs player to lead the league in penalty minutes (390).
