
Jackals take series against Spirit

Little Falls, NJ â A five run fifth inning was enough for the Jackals, as they defeated the North Shore Spirit, 6-3. New Jersey took three games of the four game series.
After three scoreless innings, the Jackals came up with their first run in the top of the third. An RBI double by Wady Almonte, gave the Jackals a 1-0 lead.
New Jersey's big inning would come in the top of the fifth. A pair of homeruns put the Jackals ahead 6-0 through five innings. John Anderson hit a two-run shot, while Wilton Veras added a three-run blast for New Jersey.
North Shore attempted to make a comeback in the bottom of the eighth, off Jackals reliever Evan Neiser. Vic Davilla doubled scoring one. The following batter Rob Fischer launched a two run homerun, making it a 6-3 ballgame.
Brad Whitworth, starter for New Jersey, pitched seven shutout innings, scattering five hits, walking none, and fanning five. The victory was Whitworth's fourth of the season. Fabricio Benitez earned his tenth save of the season.
Bryan Morse threw six innings for the Spirit, giving up six earned on eight hits. He suffered the loss.
For New Jersey, Wilton Veras went 2-4 with a double, a homerun, three RBI, and two runs scored.
Rob Fischer went 2-4 with a double, homerun, and two RBI.
The Jackals head to Elmira, to begin a three game set with the Pioneers on Monday, August 2, 2004. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Dunn Field.
