Can-Am New Jersey Jackals

Jackals Squeeze by Capitales

June 15, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - In his second start of the season, lefty Craig Clark held the visiting Quebec Capitales to two runs, one earned, over six-plus innings of three-hit ball. Two RBIs from the percolating Carlos Guzman are the difference, as the Jackals beat the Capitales 3-2.

On a calm, picturesque Friday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium, New Jersey improves to 17-9, leapfrogging the now 17-10 Capitales for first place in the Can-Am standings.

Clark improves to 2-0 in two starts after coming to the Jackals mid-season. He did not allow a hit for 17 straight batters after allowing a Rene Leverett first inning single.

Bryan Rembisz, with his slew of windups, arm angles, and mannerisms, picks up his first loss of the season. He threw allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings. He drops to 3-1 in 2012.

Both Capitales runs came courtesy of Sebastien Boucher, although the outfielder did see his 11-game hit streak end. He scored Josh Colafemina in the first on a ground out, and scored a run himself on a Bryan Sabatella error in the seventh.

In a battle of staff aces, the two teams will take the field tomorrow at 6:35 in game two of the three-game set. Isaac Pavlik (4-0, 4.18) will try to tie Joel Bennetts's all-time Jackals record of 59 wins. He broke the former Jackals' strikeout record last Friday against these Capitales.

The Can-Am's wins leader Karl Gélinas (5-0, 2.46) will try to remain perfect. He has recorded a win in all five starts this year.

They'll conclude the series on Sunday, with that start time slated for 2:05 p.m.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
