Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - December 9, 2015 - Allan McPherson and Mike Seidel each had a goal and an assist while Niklas Lundstrom made 51 saves en route to a 4-3 victory over the Norfolk Admirals. The Jackals remain red-hot and have now won nine of their last 11 games.
Elmira edged ahead early with a quick strike from Kevin Clare at 5:59 of the opening frame. Just as a power-play was expiring, Chris Langkow worked the puck over to Allan McPherson who fed Kevin Clare fresh off the bench for a whistling wrist shot top shelf over the shoulder of Philippe Cadorette. Niklas Lundstrom stood tall in the first 20 minutes stopping all 18 shots he faced.
The Jackals doubled their lead at 13:08 of the second period with a stunning wrist shot from Tyler Currier. He fired the shot from just inside the blueline and saw it glance off the shoulder of Cadorette and trickled towards the goal, before being knocked in by the netminder. Just over two minutes later the Admirals got on the board with Tommy Mele's redirect in front for his seventh of the season. However, the Jackals were able to regain their two-goal lead before the end of the period, thanks to a blunder by Cadorette. While shorthanded, Cadorette held the puck behind the net lackadaisically allowing Mike Seidel to swing through and knock it away then find Allan McPherson in front for his fifth of the year.
The Admirals responded quickly in the third period and cut the Jackals lead back down to one at 1:19 with Alexandre Ranger's seventh of the season assisted by Ben Betker and Michael Pelech. But the resilient Jackals rapidly regained their two-goal advantage as Mike Seidel banked the puck off Cadorette's back and in from below the goal line for his eighth goal of the season. Chris Langkow and Josh Chapman recorded the assists on the eventual game-winner. Nick MacNeil narrowed the Jackals' lead back to one with a late power-play goal with the extra attacker on the ice, but it was too little too late for the Admirals.
Niklas Lundstrom stopped 51 of 54 shots faced to earn his fifth win of the season. Philippe Cadorette allowed four goals on 33 shots faced and was handed the loss.
