Jackals Sign Harris, Kirschner

The Elmira Jackals announced on Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Donnie Harris and forward Alec Kirschner, attendees of the team's training camp, to standard player contracts. The 2-0 Jackals host the Florida Everblades on Friday night at First Arena at 7:35 p.m.

Harris, a 6'2", 208-pound rookie, skated the last two seasons with the AJHL's Bonnyville Pontiacs, scoring four goals and adding 30 assists for 34 points to go along with 149 penalty minutes combined from 2009-2011. He was a member of the 2007-2008 USHL Clark Cup champion Omaha Lancers. Harris, a native of Fort Ashby, W.V., also attended training camp this year with Elmira's AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Kirschner, a 5'10", 180-pound fourth-year pro from Dix Hills, N.Y., skated 17 games last season with the FHL's Danbury Whalers, checking in third on the team with 40 points (22g-18a) while leading the team at +27. He played with the CHL's Tulsa Oilers and the IHL's Flint Generals in 2009-2010, scoring five goals and contributing five assists for 10 points over 37 games. Kirschner scored seven goals and added 22 assists for 29 points in his rookie season of 2008-2009 with the IHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks. He played collegiately at the University of Connecticut (NCAA, D-I) for two seasons prior to turning pro.
