
San Jose Assigns Goaltender Thomas Heemskerk to the Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced that San Jose has assigned rookie goaltender Thomas Heemskerk to the Thunder from the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League and reassigned goaltender Harri Sateri from the Thunder to Worcester.
Heemskerk, 21, signed by San Jose to a standard entry level contract on September 29, 2009, has suited up for the Sharks in the last three preseason rookie tournaments.
Most recently he went 1-1-0 with a 2.19 goals against average and .929 save percentage in two games against Calgary and Winnipeg in the 2011 Vancouver Canucks YoungStars Tournament.
The 6-foot and 195 pound goaltender previously appeared in 179 career junior games with Moose Jaw, Everett and Kootenay of the Western Hockey League, earning a 91-58-19 record, 2.81 goals against average, .910 save percentage and nine shutouts.
Heemskerk's 36 wins ranked fifth in the WHL and set a career high last season with Moose Jaw when he totaled a 2.94 goals against average and .908 save percentage. His .927 save percentage in 2009-10 with Everett led the WHL and he registered a career high four shutouts.
Sateri, 21, dressed for his first NHL game on Oct. 8 vs. Phoenix and backed up Thomas Greiss.
The 6-foot-1 and 190 pound goaltender appeared in seven games with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League last season and went 1-3-1 with a 2.56 goals against average and .918 save percentage. He also played in 37 games for Tampere of the Finnish Elite League notching a 9-19-8 record with a 2.96 goals against average.
The Thunder also announced the following transactions:
Ryan Zapolski (G) - placed on waivers
Jordan Foreman (C) - activated off injured reserve
Cameron Brodie (D) - placed on 3-day injured reserve
