Chicago Express Hockey Inaugural Season Home Opener Saturday

On Saturday, October 22, Chicago professional sports will usher in a new era as the ECHL's Chicago Express drops the puck on its inaugural home season. The Express, an affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, will take on North Division foe, the Kalamazoo Wings for their first home game at 7:30 pm at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates.

An enthusiastic crowd is expected for this inaugural event, during which the Express will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for "Most People Simultaneously Blowing Train Whistles." The Express will be handing out train whistles and magnetic schedules to the first 1500 fans into the building. Fans will also be treated to an appearance by the "Zooperstars", the unique animalistic stars named after famous sports figures.

To kick off game festivities on Saturday, Hoffman Estates Mayor, Bill McLeod will present Express owners Craig and Sue Drecktrah with a key to the village as well as a proclamation for "Express Day."

The ECHL is a Premier AA hockey league and feeder for the National Hockey League and American Hockey League teams. It boasts 20 teams in 16 US states; 467 former ECHL players have played in the National Hockey League. For the 10th consecutive year, the ECHL is represented by the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions with Boston Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward, players Michael Ryder, Rich Peverley and Tim Thomas.

The Sears Centre Arena is an 11,000-seat multipurpose family entertainment, cultural, and sports arena located in Hoffman Estates' Prairie Stone Business Park.
