Jackals Sign Former Can-Am League All-Star Carlos Sosa

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of outfielder Carlos Sosa. Sosa, a 28-year-old Dominican Republic native, was a Can-Am League All Star with the Worcester Tornadoes in 2009. Sosa is expected to be in uniform on Friday night when the Jackals continue their four-game series against the Pittsfield Colonials at Yogi Berra Stadium.

With Worcester last season, Sosa batted .314 with a career-high 15 home runs 69 RBIs in 83 games en-route to being named to the Can-Am League's Postseason All-Star Team. Sosa ranked fifth in the league in batting average, fourth in RBIs, second in slugging percentage, and fifth in on-base percentage.

Sosa had been playing in the independent Golden League in 2010, where he batted .278 with five home runs and five doubles in 31 games for the Utah-based St. George RoadRunners.

2010 marks Sosa's 10th professional season. Sosa spent his first eight seasons in the San Francisco Giants organizations, reaching as high as the Double-A level with the Connecticut Defenders in 2007 and 2008. Entering 2010, Sosa is a career .275 hitter with 80 home runs including five seasons of double-digit homers.
