
Jackals rally with six unanswered to top Rox

Little Falls, NJ â After trailing early, the Jackals scored six unanswered, as they stunned the Rox by a final score of 8-6.
New Jersey picked up two runs in the top of the first. Craig Conway doubled, and the following batter, Kevin Grijak, tripled scoring one. Cleanup batter Wilton Veras then doubled, scoring Grijak, and made it a 2-0 advantage.
Brockton's powerhouse offense would take the lead in the bottom half of the first. With runner on second and third, and one out, Saul Bustos crushed a three run homerun to left field.
They would add two more in the bottom of the second, and one more in the bottom of the third. Brian Jones led the second off with a single, and stole second. Ninth hole hitter Mike Torres doubled with one out, plating Jones. With two outs, Abner Arroyo singled, scoring Torres, making it a 5-2 ballgame. Kris Zacuto would double in the third, scoring Francisco Matos, to widen the gap to 6-2.
The Jackals crept closer in the top of the fifth. John Anderson and Veras both picked up RBI's on singles off Brockton starter Derek Anderson. Anderson was pulled from the game with two outs.
Off of Brockton reliever Matt Bennett, John Anderson notched a base knock with runners at first and second, scoring shortstop Chris Rowan. It was Anderson' s tenth RBI of the year.
The Jackals would continue their feast on Brockton relief pitching in the top of the seventh. Grijak and Veras both singled. Wady Almonte then added a single of his own, scoring Grijak on an error by the left fielder Arroyo. Alberto Vasquez then lifted a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Veras to cross the plate, giving New Jersey the slim 7-6 lead.
They would add a run of insurance in the eighth. Wilton Veras singled with runners on first and second, scoring Anderson, to extend the Jackals advantage.
Carlos Figueroa got the win for the Jackals. He pitched two and a third innings of perfect work, while striking out three. Fabricio Benitez got the save.
New Jersey pitching retired the final 19 Brockton batters.
Wilton Veras was 4-5, for New Jersey, with three RBI. Jay LaFlair reached base three times, going 2-3 with a double, and a run scored.
