New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - Entering Thursday evening's finale of a four game series against the Grays, the New Jersey Jackals were 4-26 with runners in scoring position. When the night ended, the Jackals offense finally got back on track, and exploded in a 12-5 win to split the series.

In the bottom of the second inning, the New Jersey Jackals took a 2-0 lead. Following a two-out walk issued by Grays' starter Elliot Shaw, the following batter Guillermo Reyes crushed a majestic two-run homerun over the right field wall.

Reyes' encore in the bottom of the fourth inning was even sweeter. His three-run homerun, again off of Shaw, put the Jackals comfortably ahead 5-0.

After five innings of near spotless work from New Jersey's Mike Vicaro, the Grays finally touched him up for a pair of runs in the sixth. A two-out, two-run homerun by Chad Gabriel, his first since June 30th, helped the Grays fight to within three runs. Their comeback would be short lived after New Jersey's outpouring in the bottom of the sixth.

The Jackals hammered Shaw and reliever Craig Snipp for six runs. Reyes scored on a passed ball, Jud Thigpen collected an RBI single, Clyde Williams added a sacrifice fly, Matt Lauderdale singled across a run, and Reyes notched his sixth RBI of the game with a single in his second at-bat of the inning.

Dan Schwam's Grays tried to fight back in the seventh when J.B. Tucker homered, but New Jersey's Williams added another sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to get the run back.

The Grays picked up another run in the eighth on Jose Valasquez's RBI double, but they'd pose no real threat, while even scoring one more run in the ninth.

Vicaro was the winner for his seventh consecutive start. He allowed three earned runs, on seven hits, in seven innings of work. He walked one and struck out four.

Shaw, who surrendered seven earned runs, took the loss.
