Big First Inning Dooms Skyhawks
July 19, 2007 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
On a night where the Skyhawks looked to get back to .500 in the second half and split their series with the Nashua Pride, the Skyhawks were in a hole before they knew it. Skyhawks starter Ryan Lobban was ineffective against the Pride as he allowed 5 runs in only a 1/3 of an inning, a deficit that the Skyhawks struggled to come back from. The bullpen was solid, allowing only 4 runs, only 3 earned in 8 2/3 innings of work.
Reliever Trey Stephens was superb, allowing only 1 hit in 3 innings of work. Pride starter Hideki Nagasaka repeatedly work his way out of trouble over his six innings of work, enough to improve his record to 4-0. The Skyhawks offense had plenty of men on base as every Skyhawk reached base in the game, but that would not be enough. Skyhawks hope to start fresh as they start a three game series with the Can Am Grays Friday night at Skylands Park at 6:35, with FIREWORKS following the game.
